once a month, Denman Island's vegan-friendly feasts provide the opportunity for food lovers of every persuasion to enjoy each others company over a hearty meal accessible to all!
Vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike are invited to participate in our healthful smorgasbords with any entirely plant-based salad, entree, dessert or single item dish that all may share. Please include an ingredient list with your contribution. Feel free to call for ideas if you could use a little help!
In this spirit of inclusivity, the vegan potluck series also encourages a fragrance-free environment, for the comfort of chemically-sensitive individ- uals. Thankyou for abstaining from the use of scented laundry, hair or other bodycare products that could possibly induce an allergic reaction in others.
After dinner, a guest speaker, film, or meeting is usually featured. Topics vary, but almost always have something to do with ecological awareness or social justice issues of one kind or another. The general public is always welcome to attend. There is no charge for admission, however a suggested donation of $3 towards hall rental and other event expenses is greatly ap- preciated.
The potluck is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm in the back room of the Denman Community Hall in Denman Village. Planning to arrive a little earlier provides additional time for socializing, and helps us get underway on schedule. The Hall is located just north of the General Store, and a short walk up the ferry hill for off-islanders who may wish to leave their vehicles in Buckley Bay. Return ferries leave at 20 minutes to the hour up until 10:40 pm. Ferry schedule information can be obtained by calling 335-0323.
Be sure to not only check under UPCOMING EVENTS at the top of this page for information about our next potluck, but under ARCHIVES and/or LINKS for information about past potlucks and films shown that are now available for loan and ongoing sharing in our community.
Vegan cuisine excludes all animal
products, including meat, fish, dairy,
eggs, honey and gelatin.
Personal health, compassion for
animals, and concern for the envi-
ronment are reasons why some folks
adopt a vegan lifestyle. Denman's
monthly community vegan potluck
series provides a relaxed venue in
which vegans can enjoy sharing their
culture of choice with family, friends
and extended community, and where
just about everybody can find plenty
of inviting foods to eat!
Anyone simply interested in incor-
porating more fruit and vegetable
servings into their daily diets, and
decreasing the amount of animal
products they consume can find lots
of new recipe ideas at the potluck,
too.
Originally initiated in the early 90's,
Denman's Community Vegan Potluck
Series was inspired by John Robbins,
author of the best-selling "Diet for a
New America". Robbins founded
'EarthSave', a now worldwide
initiative to raise consciousness about
the global impact of our dietary
choices. Please click on LINKS,

food, agriculture, health, social
justice and related ecological issues.
